We turn Moments of Loss Into Legacies of Love.
what is a homegoing?
A homegoing is a deeply rooted Christian tradition within the African-American and Black-Canadian communities, honoring the deceased's journey to their eternal home with the Lord. Unlike traditional funerals, a homegoing is a celebration of life—a joyful tribute to the individual’s legacy, faith, and transition to Heaven.
This tradition also carries ancestral significance, inspired by the belief that, in death, the spirit of an enslaved person would return to their homeland in Africa. A homegoing reflects this cultural heritage, blending faith, community, and remembrance into a uniquely meaningful ceremony.
At Homegoing Your Way, we are honored to carry this tradition forward, ensuring that every homegoing we help plan celebrates life, legacy, and love with the respect and cultural sensitivity it deserves.
Homegoing Your Way is dedicated to providing compassionate, comprehensive, and culturally sensitive funeral preparation services for Black families. Our mission is to ensure that every individual's final wishes are honored and that families can focus on healing and remembrance, free from the burdens of logistical and emotional chaos.
Our Mission
Hey there
I’m regina
A Calling Rooted in Love, Legacy, and Community
Homegoing Your Way was born from a deeply personal journey of love, loss, and a desire to serve my community in one of life’s most challenging moments.
I started this business to empower Black families to plan homegoing celebrations with intention, clarity, and care. Too often, we avoid the difficult conversations about death, leaving our families overwhelmed and unprepared when the time comes. My goal is to change that—to encourage proactive planning that ensures your wishes are honored and your loved ones are supported, free from unnecessary stress or confusion.
The Inspiration Behind the Mission
The inspiration for this business came after the passing of my beloved cousin, who bravely fought a six-year battle with cancer. Two years before her passing, she entrusted me with planning her homegoing service, sharing every detail of her wishes. When the time came, her sons were at a loss, unsure where to begin, and I stepped in to carry out her vision.
The process was not without its challenges. Navigating the logistics—from coordinating with the mortuary to writing the obituary—was compounded by unexpected family tension. Despite these hurdles, I honored her wishes exactly as she envisioned, creating a beautiful celebration of her life. The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, and I realized I might be onto something that could help others.
My experiences with my cousin wasn’t unique. When my father passed unexpectedly, I witnessed my mother—his wife of over 40 years—unable to face the weight of planning his homegoing. I’ve seen others in similar situations: children left without guidance, families struggling to finance homegoings, and loved ones forced to make rushed decisions amidst their grief.
These moments showed me the common threads of chaos and confusion that often accompany loss. Whether it’s family members struggling to find important documents, disagreements about the service, or financial burdens that lead to GoFundMe campaigns, the impact of being unprepared can ripple through generations.
Turning Pain into Purpose
Overcoming Fear to Serve Others
I used to avoid conversations about death entirely. It was a topic I feared, something I couldn’t face. But through these experiences, I’ve come to realize that these conversations aren’t just necessary—they’re transformative. Planning isn’t just about logistics; it’s an act of love and a way to leave behind clarity, not chaos.
A Legacy of Empowerment
At Homegoing Your Way, my mission is simple: to help families celebrate their loved ones with dignity, honor, and respect. Whether it’s through pre-planning services that empower individuals to create their own legacy or post-planning support to guide families through their loss, I’m here to provide the clarity and compassion they need.
I’m deeply committed to helping others avoid the mistakes and struggles I’ve seen firsthand. This work isn’t just a business—it’s my calling, inspired by the love I have for my family and the desire to make this process easier for yours.
Together, we can create homegoing celebrations that reflect the richness of life, the depth of love, and the beauty of legacy.
